A Taste of the Cape – Wine Dinner

We are delighted to be hosting a South African wine dinner at Restaurant 36 on the Quay on Thursday 16th May. The Cape has always had a close connection with Hermitage Cellars, Alistair lived in Cape Town for a few years and goes back regularly to visit wine makers – many of whom have become friends – and taste new vintages and new wines.

Highly regarded English wine journalist Tim Atkin MW recently stated “South Africa is currently the most exciting New World wine producing nation on the planet”. There has been a remarkable transformation over the last 10 years in the Cape and there is a real buzz in the air with a whole generation of new young wine makers making some wonderful wines from old vines and in many cases newer regions. Stellenbosch and Constantia maybe the best known but areas such as Elgin and the Swartland are now coming to the fore, with Chenin Blanc and white blends leading the way along with some interesting reds made from older vines.

With a fine four course meal cooked by Gary Pearce and his team this is a wonderful opportunity to taste some of Alistair’s current favourite Cape wines. Details below and please contact Restaurant 36 on the Quay directly to make a booking.
