The 2016 vintage in the Rhône has been highly praised, from an extremely good vintage in the Northern Rhone to possibly the greatest vintage in 30-40 years in the Southern Rhone. Michel Chapoutier describes it as follows –
“An outstanding vintage! This year was full of surprises and will remain ingrained in our memories due to its unpredictable weather! It was a true winemakers’ vintage and the month of September made it what it is. This outstanding year brought us classic Ermitages and exceptional Châteauneuf-du-Pape!”
While we wait for these wines to become available Chapoutier’s always reliable Côtes du Rhône Belleruche offers a tantalising glimpse into the treasures that await us!
“The Belleruche cuvée has been on a qualitative roll over the past few years, and the 2016 Côtes du Rhône Belleruche is no exception. Classic notes of black raspberries, wild strawberries, spice, and pepper give way to a supple, textured, balanced and undeniably delicious red that’s ideal for drinking over the coming 2-4 years. 89 points” Jeb dunnuck, Jebdunnuck.com, 19th october 2017
