New Zealand

The rugged, unspoiled Awatere Valley is no location for the faint of heart, yet its harsh conditions bring rare rewards for winemakers. The soil types and climate conspire to slow the ripening of grapes grown here, creating crisper, fresher wines with more intense fruit than in any other region of Marlborough. The Crossings love their wine and the land that helps produce it, so they do everything to guarantee they will be able to keep making wine here indefinitely. All three of their vineyards are fully accredited through the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand programme. The goal is to make sure nothing done now will have an effect that will detract from the land or the wine in the future.
